Exciting Weekend for East Valley TARS at the State TARS Convention!
The East Valley TARS joined dozens of TARS from across Arizona for the Arizona TARS Convnetion on March 8, 9 & 10.
On Thursday, TARS toured the state capitol, heard from speakers such as State Treasurer Dean Martin and Rep. Michelle Reagan. They also participated in a public speaking workshop.
Saturday morning, TARS spent the morning and afternoon in the House of Representatives chaimbers debating bills on issues such as immigration, education and spending.
In the evening, TARS headed to the Hilton Airport Hotel, where the Arizona TARS 3rd annual banquet was held. The theme of the evening was "Jailhouse Rock", and the keynote speaker was Sherriff Joe Arpaio. At the end of the evening, the statewide awards were announced, and East Valley TARS, in a tie with Saguaro High School, recieved Arizona TARS top honor, the "Outstanding Club in Arizona Award" for the first time in their four year history.
TARS headed to the State Republican Party Headquarters on Saturday morning, where new Arizona Republican Party Executive Director Sean McCaffrey and Arizona Youth & Government Director Beth Hebert spoke briefly about opportunities for TARS. Club development and elections followed (see side column).
